Custom 6061 Round Aluminum Heat Sink CNC Machined

Skived-fin aluminum heat sinks for IGBT, MOSFET and power-module cooling - a milled flat device base with dense straight comb fins, CNC drilled and tapped holes to your power module pattern, natural silver finish.

  • Skived Comb Fins: Fins are skived directly from the base plate, so there is no thermal joint between fin and base - critical for high-wattage IGBTs and inverters where every degree counts.
  • Milled Flat Device Base: The mounting face is fly-cut flat to seal tightly against IGBT, MOSFET or diode modules with thermal grease, keeping junction temperature low.
  • Drilled & Tapped to Your Pattern: Clearance and tapped holes are CNC-machined to your module mounting layout - no separate brackets, no drill fixtures on the shop floor.
  • Natural Silver Anodize: A clear anodize preserves high emissivity and protects the aluminum in industrial cabinets, inverter rooms and drive enclosures.

What Is This Service

When a standard round sunflower sink cannot meet your mechanical or thermal spec, the answer is a custom 6061 round extrusion tooled to your drawing. These sinks combine radial cooling fins with integrated T-slots, mounting bosses and internal ribs - all extruded in one piece - so the sink also functions as a structural part of your fixture rather than a bolt-on accessory.

We prefer 6061-T6 over 6063 for these custom round profiles because it is stronger, machines cleaner and holds threaded bosses and cantilevered mounting tabs without yielding. After extrusion, the center bore, cross-holes, slots and mounting faces are finished on CNC centers to tight tolerances, then clear anodized. This is the typical solution for high-end LED downlights, machine-vision sensor heads, cylindrical power supplies and custom instrument enclosures.

Send us your 2D drawing or 3D model - we will review the tooling, propose fin geometry for your target wattage, and return samples within weeks for approval before production. Volumes scale from 100-piece prototypes to 50,000+ per month under NDA.

Custom Round Sink Capabilities

Custom Extrusion Tooling

If no stock profile fits your envelope, we open a dedicated extrusion die for your fin count, height and internal features - one part that cools and mounts.

6061-T6 Structural Strength

Stronger than 6063, 6061 carries threaded bosses, T-slots and cantilevered tabs so the sink doubles as a structural component.

CNC Finish to Drawing

Center bore, cross-holes, slots and faces are CNC-machined to your model with +/-0.05 mm tolerance - no secondary fixturing on your line.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I order custom extrusion instead of a stock sink?
When the sink must also act as a housing, carry threaded bosses or mounting tabs, or fit a non-standard envelope, custom tooling is cheaper than adding brackets and adapters.
Why 6061 instead of 6063?
6061-T6 is stronger and holds threads and thin walls better. It machines cleanly but is slightly less extrudable - we use it when mechanical load matters.
How long does custom tooling take?
Typical extrusion die development plus samples runs 4-6 weeks from drawing approval; we coordinate with you on fin geometry to hit your thermal target.
Can you CNC secondary features?
Yes - center bore, cross-holes, tapped holes, slots and mounting faces are all machined in-house on CNC centers to your 2D drawing or 3D model.
